Em Centro, tanto as imagens quanto os objetos que fotografei são o resultado direto da transformação e ação sob a superfície da cidade. Fotografo muito cedo quando o Centro de São Paulo ainda se encontra vazio. Como um arqueólogo busco pelo que foi deixado para traz. Procuro o silêncio como maneira de subverter nosso percepção convencional de tempo e espaço associada a esse região da cidade. Objetos e construções são o material sob o qual busco por ordem. Quando fotografados esse objetos se tornam monumentos que celebram gestos efêmeros e aparentemente insignificantes na paisagem urbana, gestos que guardam em si uma energia latente de busca e possibilidade. As imagens aludem a questões sociais e históricas ora muito particulares a São Paulo ora presentes em qualquer grande metrópole. Centro é um espaço muito particular de relação com a cidade onde nasci e cresci.
In Centro both my images and the objects I photograph are a direct result of transformation, of acting over the surface of the city. I photograph downtown São Paulo when it is empty, like an archeologist I search for what was left behind.
I search to subvert the normal perception of time and space associated with this area to create a new condition for looking. A pause for contemplation, where perception can be turned towards detail and its potential for meaning.
Objects and man made construction are the material where I search for order and the evidence of small gestures of transformation. I see the objects I photographed as monuments that celebrate ephemeral constructive gestures and a latent will for change and transformation in the city. The images in Centro allude to social and historical issues sometimes very particular to the city of São Paulo and in other times typical of any large global metropolis. In the last years, Centro, has become a space for a very personal relationship I cultivated with the city that is my home.
